Design
The appearance of your products can be protected by intellectual property rights relating to designs.
There are two types of protection available for designs: registered design and design right.
Design Right is a form of protection for three dimensional products. Design right comes into existence automatically when a new three dimensional product is created.
In contrast, a registered design can only be obtained by making an application to the Intellectual Property Office. Significantly, a registered design can cover both two-dimensional and three dimensional designs.
You can see how the process works on the Intellectual Property Office website.
